Kala Sarpa Yoga
काल सर्प योग
All seven classical planets (Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn) fall between Rahu and Ketu in the zodiac. Famous as a "dosha" — but often less severe than internet-astrology presents.

How Kala Sarpa Yoga is formed
Drawing a line from Rahu to Ketu through the centre of the chart, all seven traditional planets must fall on one side of that line — none on the opposite arc. Modern practice splits Kala Sarpa into 12 named sub-types (Anant, Kulik, Vasuki, etc.) by which house Rahu sits in.
Effects when Kala Sarpa Yoga is present
Classical reading: delays, struggle, mental restlessness, karmic obstacles — particularly in the themes of the houses Rahu and Ketu occupy. Modern practice: when uncancelled, it tends to produce a chart that has to work harder than peers for similar results, but also breeds unusual resilience. Many highly successful charts have Kala Sarpa — the yoga has a strong "delayed success" pattern.
- Delays and obstacles, particularly early in life
- Strong resilience develops as compensation
- Often present in late-bloomer success charts
- Heavily overstated online — many forms are mild
Classical reference
Modern compilations from Nadi literature; not detailed in BPHS itself. Twelve sub-types named in later texts.
Frequently asked questions about Kala Sarpa Yoga
Is Kala Sarpa Yoga as bad as websites claim?
Generally overstated. Many forms are mild; many highly successful people have one. The pattern is "delayed, then strong" more than "doomed".
How is Kala Sarpa Yoga remedied?
Traditional remedies include Rahu-Ketu specific Pujas (Kala Sarpa Shanti at temples like Trimbakeshwar, Kalahasti), Rahu-Ketu mantras, and Saturn / Mars work depending on which planets the line constrains.
