Do I have Kaal Sarp Dosha? The honest check.

Kaal Sarp is full Kaal Sarp only when every planet sits strictly between Rahu and Ketu. One planet outside that axis breaks it. DestinIQ computes your real chart, names which of the 12 types applies (or doesn't), and flags every cancellation — no ₹50,000 puja pressure.

What Kaal Sarp Dosha actually is

Rahu and Ketu are the Moon's north and south nodes — they sit exactly 180° apart and form an axis across your chart. When all seven major planets (Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn) are compressed onto one side of that axis, the chart has Kaal Sarp Dosha. If even one planet falls on the other side of the Rahu–Ketu line, the full dosha breaks and becomes partial Kaal Sarp — a much milder pattern.

The full explainer covers the mythology, the 12 types in detail, and why the commercial remedy industry around this dosha is disproportionate to what the classical texts actually say.

The 12 types (one line each)

  • Anant — Rahu in 1st, Ketu in 7th. Self vs partnership tension.
  • Kulik — Rahu in 2nd, Ketu in 8th. Family wealth and inheritance themes.
  • Vasuki — Rahu in 3rd, Ketu in 9th. Siblings, effort, belief systems.
  • Shankhapal — Rahu in 4th, Ketu in 10th. Home vs career balance.
  • Padma — Rahu in 5th, Ketu in 11th. Creativity, children, social gains.
  • Mahapadma — Rahu in 6th, Ketu in 12th. Debts, health, losses.
  • Takshak — Rahu in 7th, Ketu in 1st. Partnership identity.
  • Karkotak — Rahu in 8th, Ketu in 2nd. Transformation, longevity, speech.
  • Shankhachud — Rahu in 9th, Ketu in 3rd. Dharma, teachers, writing.
  • Ghatak — Rahu in 10th, Ketu in 4th. Career vs emotional base.
  • Vishdhar — Rahu in 11th, Ketu in 5th. Gains vs creative output.
  • Sheshnag — Rahu in 12th, Ketu in 6th. Isolation, loss, service.

Cancellations most sites skip

  1. Any planet outside the Rahu–Ketu axis — dosha becomes partial (far milder).
  2. Jupiter in a kendra (1st, 4th, 7th, 10th) — benefic protection.
  3. Rahu / Ketu conjunct Jupiter or Venus — malefic energy channeled constructively.
  4. Strong Lagna lord well-placed — the chart holds itself together.
  5. Rahu in own sign (Virgo, debatable; Aquarius in some schools) or exalted (Taurus) — Rahu behaves better.

Reality check

Many people labeled with Kaal Sarp Dosha live full, successful lives. Amitabh Bachchan and Dhirubhai Ambani are commonly cited examples. The dosha is a pattern worth knowing — not a life sentence. The remedies industry around it is sized for business, not for the classical reading.

Frequently asked questions

What is Kaal Sarp Dosha?

A configuration where Sun, Moon, and the five classical planets all sit between Rahu and Ketu. One planet outside that axis breaks the full dosha.

Is it dangerous?

Usually overstated. Strong benefic placements, supportive Dasha, or partial configuration often reduce it significantly.

How do I know which type I have?

From Rahu's house position — Rahu in 1st is Anant, in 2nd is Kulik, and so on through all 12. You need your exact birth time to compute the houses.

Do I need the Trimbakeshwar puja?

That's a personal choice. The ritual is legitimate, the commercial packages are often exaggerated. Don't let fear-based urgency drive the decision.
